St Paul's farmyard has certainly been a busy place in Term 1 with some lovely newly acquired 14 Muscovy Ducklings and 2 x Berkshire Gilts and some barrows. These animals will be studied by students, with several classes being responsible for weighing them weekly and their feed and other inputs will be recorded.
Once the animals reach “ideal” weights they will be sold according to the relevant price (liveweight) at that time. The students will then analysis the data collected and be asked to respond (using their data) to whether these agricultural enterprises are worthwhile. In the future we will do similar with other breeds of poultry (such as broilers) and compare the enterprises.
An exciting place to be at St Paul's.
